Christmas in Liverpool is a magical time of the year. The city is filled with shoppers browsing, carollers singing festive tunes and tourists admiring the gorgeous Christmas decorations. We’re very lucky here, we have two Liverpool Christmas markets as well as many other Christmas events across the city. Christmas accommodation here fills up faster than the Christmas markets so make sure to book your stay with PREMIER SUITES serviced apartments Liverpool as soon as possible to avoid disappointment! Here are our favourite Christmas events in Liverpool this year.

Christmas Lights:

The annual lighting of the Christmas tree and lights are the official signal of the start of the silly season here in Liverpool. For the past five years, thousands of people from all over Merseyside gather at the Liverpool One to witness the switching on of the lights and the illumination of the iconic 30-metre tree. This year it takes place on Friday 15th November and Bar Hütte, a festive Scandinavian-themed bar will also open the same day. It’s the perfect place for groups of friends, families to gather and get into the Christmas spirit.

Liverpool Christmas Market:

We have many fantastic high streets and department stores in Liverpool but if you’re looking for a gift for a loved one, or something unique for yourself, Liverpool Christmas markets are the best place to start. This year we have two unique Christmas markets in the city, the first on St George’s Plateau. There will be over 40 gorgeous Christmas stalls selling all sorts of handcrafted and homemade items. You’ll also find a great variety of Christmas themed food and drink from around the world. The second of our Christmas markets is at Pier Head Liverpool, also known as Christmas Ice Festival. It’s the largest market in the city and traders dress their stalls with festive garlands and spread Christmas cheer, offering a range of food, drink, arts and crafts for shoppers to indulge in. You’ll also find vintage fairground rides and a variety of bars to enjoy a festive tipple in. Entrance is free and it’s open from 11am to 9/10pm every day from November 9th to January 5th, for to all to enjoy.

Ice Skating:

Not only does the Christmas Ice Festival have a great market, you can also go ice skating in the same location. No need to worry about the elements as the rink is completely covered but don’t forget to wrap up well, it’s still ice after all! For the more experienced and daring skater, you can try out the UK’s largest Ice Slide, three rapid 30m slopes which run 6m above the park giving you an excellent view across the entire Ice Festival. Afterwards, replenish your energy stores with a delicious snack from one of the many food stalls surrounding the rink. You should book online to secure your space as it’s always a popular attraction

Pantomimes:

It’s not Christmas without bringing your family and friends to one of the many pantomimes in Liverpool. This year you’ll find everything from large scale venues putting on high-budget shows in huge venues, like Liverpool Empire, and smaller community shows run by locals like the one in Bootle Community Hall. Every panto you choose to visit is a culmination of months of hard work and effort, often by groups of young children dancers and performers. Kids love the panto as it’s an interactive way to get into the Christmas spirit and adults love the jokes that go way above their little heads!
